About us

Our name means “life-giving food” — reflecting our belief that when young people continually “feed on” truth about who they are and the value, purpose, and potential they carry, they begin to believe they are worthy, capable, and created with significance. As their identity is strengthened and nurtured, they are empowered to thrive.

Through mentoring, school partnerships, and practical programmes, we walk alongside the next generation — helping young people build confidence, resilience, and a deep sense of purpose. Our heart is to see them truly know who they are and the value they carry, so they are equipped for the future and empowered to make a positive impact in their schools, whānau, communities, and nations.

What we do

At Te Kai Whaka Ora, we walk alongside young people to strengthen identity, build resilience, and move forward with purpose. Through peer mentoring, school-based programmes, and community partnerships, we create spaces where young people feel seen, supported, and encouraged to grow.

Our work focuses on drawing out their strengths and potential while fostering positive mindsets that build confidence, resilience, and self-worth. By developing strong foundations and equipping young people with practical tools for life, we empower them to navigate challenges with confidence and positively influence their schools, whānau, communities, and the world around them — shaping relationships, culture, and future generations through the way they lead, serve, and live.

Shine & Strength Programmes

Our Shine and Strength programmes are foundation-building initiatives delivered in partnership with schools. Through guided conversations, practical tools, and supportive environments, young people develop confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of identity. These programmes help participants recognise their worth, understand their strengths, and begin shaping a clear direction for their future.

One-on-One Mentoring

One-on-one mentoring provides personalised support for young people as they navigate life’s challenges and opportunities. Through consistent connection, honest conversations, and intentional guidance, mentors help young people strengthen their mindset, build resilience, and grow in confidence. This relational approach creates space for reflection, encouragement, and steady personal growth.

Peer Mentorship / Discipling

Peer Mentoring creates supportive small-group spaces where young people can grow in friendship, faith, and confidence together. Through shared conversations, learning, and encouragement, participants explore how to make positive choices and develop strong values for everyday life. These groups foster belonging, connection, and the confidence to grow alongside others.

Partnering with Schools

We partner with schools to support the social and emotional development of students through structured programmes and workshops. By working alongside educators and school communities, we help strengthen confidence, resilience, and positive leadership in young people. Our goal is to reinforce the foundations that help students thrive both in school and beyond.

Community organisations

We collaborate with organisations and services who work with young people and families. By sharing resources, referrals, and initiatives, we can strengthen the support network around young people and create greater impact across the community.
